Maharajas, or “great kings,” who ruled states throughout India and South Asia until the middle of the twentieth century, often owned the most luxurious cars in the world. Many were ordered with unique custom coachwork and specified for ceremonial processions, touring and even hunting expeditions. Popular nameplates included Rolls Royce, Daimler, Hispano-Suiza, Maybach, Bugatti, Duesenberg, Minerva and others. Contrasting with the Cars of Kings at 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, will be cars that truly qualify as Kings of the Road: Shelby Cobras. The Concours will be celebrating Carroll Shelby and the legendary Anglo-American AC Cobras, powered by small and big-block Ford V8s. Shelby’s partnership with UK’s AC Cars started in 1961.
